The original brick-faced building was built for Frederick Johnson early in the 19th century for his West Indies Goods Store. It later became Carlisle and Holt, the principal grocery store in Bradford from 1908 until 1950. The property subsequently was operated as a retail clothing merchant (Maguire's Clothing Store) until 1988, when the building was sold and completely rebuilt and repurposed as a mixed use modern professional building. In 2013 Bradford Place was again updated and now supports a wide range of professionals and upscale retail clients, and continues to anchor the recently reconstructed historic Bradford Square.
